Righting the Wrong: the way for NUGS

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) since its formation in the year 1965 has been simmering with division as a result of high political interferences with the general operation of the mother union of all students both resident and outside Ghana. However, the project of the division of Nugs was completed by Hamza Suhyini and Abotchie Afryie of University of Ghana, Legon and University College of Management Studies (UCOMS) respectively in 2011.

The nightmare of students waking up to the news of two Presidents for Nugs is at its end and the Osman-led-administration has led the fight to instill discipline and some sense of responsibility into the Union we all love.

On Saturday, 23 June, 2012, Mr. Osman Ayariga (President of NUGS) and his able National Executive Officers sat on the same table with the other party led by Peter Kodjie for the unity we all search at a Central Committee (CC) meeting held at the Garden City University College, Kumasi to look at the way forward for the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS).

Many people didn't see this day coming but what i can confidently say is that the Ghanaian students are the victors and Osman and his men have shown a good leadership credentials unparalleled.

We must say never again to this division-mongers like Abotchie Afriyie and his cohorts and take up the responsibility of safeguarding the founding documents of our union.

Nugs is bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions.

At this stage, we have to agree to review our constitution and re-channel the "aluta continua... victoria ascerta" focus of Nugs into a worthwhile cause by clearly defining the role the Union must play in this post-independence era in order for it not to get lost in the vortex of civil societies.

Let's always agree to disagree and disagree to agree.

Long Live Ghanaians.

Aluta Continua...Victoria Ascerta
